Accessible via a scenic one hour drive to Triabunna followed by a short ferry ride, Maria Island is a must visit for wildlife lovers and history buffs. You’ll find dramatic cliffs, Painted Cliffs sandstone formations, native wildlife like wombats and kangaroos, and the historic convict site at Darlington. A car free island paradise, it’s ideal for hiking, cycling, and day long exploration.

Orford Village

A 15 to 20 minute drive from Kings Beach brings you to Orford, a relaxed coastal town with a friendly local feel. Stroll along the Prosser River, have a coffee at a riverside café, see art galleries or eat fish & chips by the water. It's the ideal place to spend a relaxing afternoon or fill up on essentials for your cottage stay.

Spring Beach & Coastal Walks

Spring Beach, just beyond Orford, is a peaceful, sheltered area perfect for swimming and picnicking. From here, you may take a spectacular coastal walk to Stapleton Beach, which offers panoramic ocean views and steep cliffs along the way. It’s a peaceful place to explore on foot and a favourite among photographers and nature lovers.

Triabunna Wharf & Markets

About a 30 minute drive north, the fishing town of Triabunna offers a charming marina, local seafood, and access to Maria Island. On Saturdays, the waterfront comes alive with a bustling market selling Tasmanian food, homemade items, and music. It's the ideal place to get fresh food, shop for local products, or spend a relaxing morning by the shore.

East Coast Natureworld

Just over an hour’s drive from Kings Beach, East Coast Natureworld is a wildlife sanctuary set in natural bushland. Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidnas, kangaroos and other animals call this place home. This sanctuary is an excellent choice for families or anybody interested in Tasmania's distinctive fauna, as it provides up close interactions and daily feeding presentations in a tranquil, educational setting.

Raspins Beach Reserve

Raspins Beach Reserve, near Orford, is a calm, shallow beach perfect for family outings, picnics and bird viewing. The quiet seas and scenery of Maria Island make this a relaxing stop on your east coast travel. It's also popular among locals, due to its picturesque beauty and calm atmosphere.

Darlington Vineyard

Located just outside Orford, about a 20 minute drive from Kings Beach, Darlington Vineyard is a small, family run winery producing exceptional cool climate wines. With sweeping views across the Prosser River toward Maria Island, it’s a scenic spot to enjoy a tasting of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, or Riesling. The friendly cellar door offers a comfortable setting in which you may converse with the winemakers and take home a bottle or two to drink at your cottage.

Freycinet National Park & Wineglass Bay

A scenic 90 minute drive north takes you to the stunning Freycinet Peninsula, home to Wineglass Bay — one of the most photographed beaches in the world. Hike to the famed overlook, kayak in crystal clear waters, or discover granite cliffs and quiet coves. It's an unforgettable day excursion that exhibits Tasmania's natural coastal beauty at its best.
